WASHINGTON STATE (MAY. 23, 2017) – Washington State University (WSU) held a Food Safety Assessment On-Farm Workshop today and among the local producers there to learn and ask questions were Northwest Farmers Union (NWFU) members.
Peggy Wright a member of NWFU said, “I was really impressed with the amount of education that came out of this event and I now have a better understanding of what it takes for a producer to work within the guidelines of these programs.”
The Northwest Farmers Union is committed to reaching out to its’ area members about the Food Safety and Modernization Act (FSMA) in order to promote and further knowledge about what it entails. FSMA has shifted the focus of food safety towards preventive steps instead of responsive steps. NWFU plans to have additional members attending more events throughout the northwest in 2017.
Northwest Farmers Union is working to protect and enhance the economic well-being and quality of life for family farmers, ranchers and rural communities through advocating grassroots-driven policy positions adopted by its membership.
